Yesterday, January 28, 2025, Decree 40/2025 was published in the Official Gazette, accepting the resignation of Dr. Ignacio Martín Yacobucci as President of the Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) ??.
This key institution in the prevention of money laundering and terrorist financing (AML/CFT) plays a fundamental role in monitoring and regulating financial activities in Argentina ??.
Yacobucci?s Replacement
With over 35 years of experience in the judicial field, it has been reported that Paul Starc will take over the position within the agency, which operates under the Ministry of Justice. However, his appointment has not yet been made official.
Starc has an extensive background in investigating complex crimes and implementing security policies. His technical and strategic profile includes participation in international seminars and programs on money laundering and economic corruption, along with a distinguished career in public administration.
A significant moment in his career came in June 2006 when he was appointed as the federal prosecutor in charge of the Criminal and Correctional Prosecutor?s Office in Tres de Febrero, Buenos Aires Province, a position he held until December 2007.
During this period, he led investigations into complex crimes. Subsequently, from December 2007 to February 2010, he served as Undersecretary of Investigations and Criminal Intelligence at the Ministry of Security of Buenos Aires Province.
From February 2010 onwards, Starc resumed his role as federal prosecutor in Buenos Aires Province, further strengthening his expertise in managing complex investigations.
